This post is not about a dealer but I thought that it would be appropriate here. My wife's scooter has been down for several months because I have not had the time to get to it. (Broken drive shaft.) After having some negative interactions with the local dealer who was certified to work on it, I was about to have it towed to St. Augustine where I purchased my scooter and have them fix it. Last Sunday, Mark, of the St. Johns Scooter Club told me about Steve Large of S&J Cycle Service. Steve is cycle technician who has worked for several reputable dealers but decided to open his own shop. I called Steve last Monday evening and in about an hour he came and picked up the scooter from my house (for half of what the aforementioned unnamed dealer charges for picking up your bike.) I picked it up this afternoon and it is running soooooo nice. And ... my wallet did NOT take a beating. His price was very fair for the service that I received. Located in north DeLand, Steve does minor to major repairs on just about any make or model scooter or motorcycle. It is so nice to have someone local that you feel good about calling when your ride is down. I highly recommend him for any mechanical needs that may arise with your ride. You can call Steve Large at 386-956-0131 or email him at snjcycles@yahoo.com

I met Steve Large several months ago when I called him about a front brake problem I was having with a 150cc Znen scooter. First he tried to help me solve it over the phone. I took it in to him and in a few minutes he had it fixed for a fraction of what the other dealers had quoted me. If you have scooters or motorcycles, you need to know Steve Large at S&J Cycle in DeLand. 386-956-0131. Tell him that the St Johns Scooter & Two-Wheeler Club recommended him.

It's interesting to me that as I look at scooter gear and accessories at the stores and internet, the US market has very little to offer. The European market make scooters sexy, stylish and cool. If you have a Vespa, you have a chance to find something that isn't stoogy, goofy, cute or nerdy in the US. Anything else and you're stuck with the US image of scooters. I see great bags, riding gear, helmets and accessories, mostly Italian or at least Italian influenced, in stores in the UK on the internet. The US motorcycle industry is reoccupied with a "bad boy" image that is dominated by black and chrome "everything" so there are very few crossovers into suitable scooter stuff. The Asians see scooters as primarily transportation so there are few interesting or unique styles to choose from there. Scooters are hot in the US market and getting hotter. I'm hoping that some enterprising US businesses will enter into the "cool and stylish" side of the European scooter much like Corozzo did on the west coast. C'mon guys- Brit riding gear, hip Kappa bags, cool looking storage and stylish helmets- bring it here or design it and make it. Bring some style to the market!

To each his own. I personally don't look at my scooter as a primary transportation. I also don't think scooters should be "accessorized" it's a scooter.... Customized, HELL YES! Because it's different. Scooters aren't motorcycles, they dont need saddle bags, and also defiantly DO NOT need chrome. I think adding some small speakers to be able to have something to listen to while riding is cool. I think lowering it an stretching it to give it a "stanced" look is awesome. Custom paint or vinyl wraps, LEDs and some performance parts are cool. Everything else.... Well is just lame to me. I see a scooter and see a project. "How can I make it cooler". I had a friend who did a skelly bike and was the coolest most simplistic thing I've seen next to a Ruckus. Scooters are different and should be treated different in my opinion. Motorcycles are not the same as scooters.
This is just my .02!!!!! Everyone has their taste in scooters which is why scooters have become a hit commodity in the us. Not just for saving gas, but also body styling and customization!!!!
Can't wait till my next project!!!!

I like scooters in the tradition of the Italians and Brits. I think the market needs some variety. I'm not crazy about them all chromed up either, like bikes. But I think we need more options than baskets and milk crates that they are usually associated with. I don't particularly like panniers either but those of us who need storage should have cooler options. Vespa has it together I think, but I understand that it's a different market than you are in. There is nothing wrong with hotrods too. It's just not for me. I hope you get a project soon and get your butt over to DeBary Coffeehouse for a ride. Good to talk to you!
